Sarah and I had a few sessions of brain-storming about what we wanted to offer in our Pop Up Restaurant. All too often we’d been out for meals and had felt we’d been served very mediocre food at vastly inflated prices. And although we’re not chefs, we are confident in our ability to cook great food at affordable prices, and provide excellent customer service in a warm and inviting atmosphere within ‘the caff’ (that’s Bordar House Teas, but our family refers to it as ‘the caff’ and so i shall carry on that tradition in our blog!).

So that was our concept…. next up was to think of a name. And boy was this tricky and after much deliberation we settled on Number Thirteen which is the address of the caff, Number 13 The Market Place, Masham.

Then we had to come up with a menu which we completely underestimated… this took us an age!! We tried many dishes that were ok, but not up to the standard of what we wanted to serve in Number Thirteen. We ate very well that first month but became more and more stressed as the deadline of the first event neared. In the end, we settled on the following menu and even if i do say so myself, we pretty much hit the nail on the head on the first event and produced three amazing courses of food – all of which was devoured by our diners.

To Start

Cream of Artichoke Soup (V)

Oak Smoked Salmon Terrine (G)

Confit of Duck with Watercress & Orange (G)

Stilton Mushrooms (V) (G) with/without Chorizo (G)

Main

Lamb Shank in a Rioja Jus (G)

Chicken with Muscadet & Black Pudding

Fish, Fennel & Prosecco Pie

Keralan Vegetable Curry (V) (G)

And to Finish…..

Sticky Toffee Pudding (V)

Rich Dark & White Chocolate Terrine (V) (G)

Lemon & Rhubarb Pot (V) (G)

And here’s a piece of feedback from one of our regular diners… we think it sums up our first Pop Up Evening brilliantly!
