By the time we reached the third or fourth Square Kitchen Pop Up restaurant at Bordar House Teas in Masham, it was becoming more and more apparent that there was a demand for a ‘Vegetarian Pop Up.’ There is a great veggie following in and around Masham and I know that there is nowhere currently offering a full Vegetarian menu to them… surely we’d be on to a winner?
Now Sarah and I are both from farming families and whilst the thought of this initially filled Sarah with dread, I was really keen to give it a whirl. I’m a huge fan of vegetarian food and often cook it at home, though my other half will often come out with remarks like, ‘is there no meat in this?’ or ‘it was nice, but would have been better with a bit of meat in,’ but because I’m chief cook, what I cook is up to me!
I have to tell you that I was a little nervous when we announced the theme back in November, but I was confident in the menu that we’d put together (even the carnivorous men in our lives admitted that the food was really tasty, in fact they both thought that the Veggie Burger was far more flavoursome than a meat-burger!). The theme was met with great trepidation by many of our regular Square Kitchen diners…. many of whom decided this Pop Up Restaurant theme wasn’t quite for them….. so this served to fuel our fire to make the evening a success! But we needn’t have worried, we filled The Square Kitchen Vegetarian Pop Up really easily and we even had a waiting list for diners keen to give it a go. It was fabulous to see so many lovely new faces too, people travelled quite a distance to come to us and it just proves that you don’t need meat to have a good meal!
Here’s the menu that we served up to many happy diners who are all keen for us to do another Vegetarian Pop Up Restaurant… and you know what, we’re keen to!
